Although I am 10 days late, I would like to wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR! After all the Christmas and New Year's madness, I finally got around to blogging about my amazing trip to Dallas, Texas in December!
First off, it was at least 20 degrees there EVERY day, so as a Canadian you can definitely imagine how amazing this would be in the winter. The main purpose of this trip was to attend and shoot my gorgeous second cousin Ashley’s wedding, on December 9th. Excited about the opportunity to visit Texas for the first time, my brother and I went a week early and stayed at my dad’s cousin’s beautiful home. Jonathan and his wife, Kelly, were easily two of the more hospitable people I’ve ever met! Being Christmas enthusiasts, they hosted the largest and most beautifully decorated tree I’ve ever seen in a house, which took five whole days to decorate (seriously, check out the pictures below)!
As you may already know, I am half Welsh (on my dad’s side) and have many family members living in Wales. I was especially excited for this trip because it gave us the opportunity to reunite and celebrate such a beautiful occasion. This being said, I was finally able to see my two uncles, my grandmother, my four cousins, and their significant others after what felt like forever! I also had the opportunity to meet other lovely family members during my stay at Jonathan and Kelly’s.
Believe it or not, on one night they hosted eleven guests in their home, all while planning and getting ready for their daughter’s wedding in just over a week! You can definitely say that I learned how to party Texan AND Welsh style during this stay!
Here are some of the activities I got to do with friends and family in Texas. I must admit, Six Flags was definitely my favourite! Feel free to ask me about my experiences, as I would highly recommend them all!
- Six Flags Amusement Park because who doesn’t love riding MASSIVE roller coasters, am I right?
- A must-see is The Sixth Floor Museum, which is the exact floor that held John F. Kennedy’s assassin before he died.
- We visited downtown Dallas on various occasions for lunch and drinks, my favourite time was at the Hard Rock Cafe!
- The Dallas Panic Room was an unforgettable experience where we actually managed to ESCAPE within the hour! This room only had a 13% escape rate, I guess my family genes are better than I thought!
- One afternoon we took a drive to a ranch style restaurant in Fort Worth Stockyards. This place is great for true Dallas sightseeing and for tourists like myself. If you want to see bulls and cowboys roaming the streets then this is definitely for you!
- You can’t go to Texas without seeing a RODEO! One evening my entire family and I went to the Fort Worth Rodeo to see my first live rodeo! This event was actually surreal.
- If you enjoy shopping like me, then you’ll love the Galleria Dallas shopping centre! This mall was full of boutiques, department stores and dining options. Since it was Christmas time, we had the opportunity to skate on their indoor rink around a gorgeously lit Christmas tree.
And FINALLY… Ashley and Mason’s wedding held at the The Springs (McKinney, Texas), on December 9th, 2017! Don’t forget to follow Alicia Hall Photography on Facebook and Instagram to be the first to find out when my next blog about this amazing wedding is posted!
Overall, I cannot thank Jonathan and Kelly enough for being such great hosts throughout my stay in Dallas. There is nothing quite like vacationing with family, especially when there are over twenty members involved! I would recommend this trip to absolutely anyone as it really did surpass my expectations.
If you’ve also visited Dallas, I would love to hear about your experience! Don’t hesitate to reach out to me by commenting below.
